Music is life and life is music : 3 chansons/œuvres musicales marquantes personnellement ?
Je suis quelqu’un qui préfère l’écoute et les débats sur des projets en entier, difficile pour moi de présenter des titres mais je peux évoquer :
Kanye West – « Through the Wire »
Ma première rencontre musicale avec ce producteur-rappeur est la première fois que je me rends compte de l’apport du sampling dans la musique Rap, R&B et Urbaine en général. Ce sample de Shaka Khan est un élément déclencheur dans ma recherche approfondie de la musique Soul, Jazz, Funk des années 70 et 80. Son génie musical et ses paroles percutantes ont fait de lui mon artiste préféré.
Red Hot Chill Pepers – « Californication »
J’ai toujours été émerveillé par le clip avant-gardiste sous forme de jeu vidéo. Les mélodies des Red Hot sont très entêtantes. Ce titre piqua ma curiosité et m’a amené à écouter d’autres groupes du genre.
J’ai été touché par la richesse des instruments qui composent le titre et la justesse de la star Nigériane. Historiquement, ce tube marque le nouveau souffle et la reconnaissance pop africaine, ses stars et l’influence de l’Afrobeat à l’international que l’on connait depuis quelques années.
Ticket gagnant : quel a été le moment déterminant pour mettre le pied à l’étrier dans ce milieu ?
Pendant mes études universitaires, je commençais à me faire connaitre au niveau des artistes, RP, managers qui reconnaissaient mes publications, recherches et me considéraient comme une plateforme d’informations crédible. Certains que je suivais et présentais sur mon blog depuis les débuts ont signé des contrats avec des majors et n’avaient pas oublié mes articles quand ils étaient inconnus. Cette situation m’a incité à persévérer et m’ouvrir à d’autres activités.
Le deuxième déclic est quand j’ai décidé d’aller vivre à Paris afin d’être sur le terrain et proche de toutes les entités de l’industrie musicale. Je suis arrivé avec un bagage culturel, mes diplômes, et mes objectifs. Le reste s’est fait par mon travail et la persévérance.
Recommandation de spectacle/concert à voir absolument pour quelqu’un qui ne sort jamais ?
Pour ceux qui veulent faire un dernier voyage musical avant la rentrée, de l’autre côté de l’Atlantique : je conseille le festival Made In America, qui réunit la crème de la scène urbaine américaine et internationale à Philadelphie, au début du mois de septembre. Le festival produit par Live Nation est à sa cinquième année.
Qu’est-ce qui vous a pris de vouloir travailler dans la musique?
La réponse peut être banale, mais la passion pour la musique reste la première source de motivation. Je suis toujours à la recherche de l’histoire derrière chaque titre, chaque projet.
J’avais l’habitude de lire les livrets des projets, les crédits découvrant les personnes et entités ayant participé. Plus jeune je ne comprenais pas l’enjeu, je découvrais qu’il y avait des personnes qui travaillaient sur des albums sans être publiquement « connues » au même titre que les artistes. Je me suis intéressé à ces « personnes de l’ombre », inspiré par leurs parcours, et de fil en aiguille, j’ai orienté mon attrait pour le marketing, l’aspect légal et l’interprétation des données chiffrées autour de la musique.
Vous rencontrez des aliens: les 10 titres / œuvres à leur faire découvrir ?
Par contre, je pense qu’il faudrait au moins 30 giga de musique pour faire découvrir la richesse et la beauté des œuvres musicales. Je partirai sur une playlist sur des artistes qui ont marqué des mouvements selon moi.

SRSLY (sérieusement) : les enjeux de votre métier dans les 5 prochaines années ?
D’ici 5 ans, le chef de projet devra gérer un artiste et son catalogue avec une fan base directe sur les plateformes de streaming. Sachant que ce même artiste est aussi influenceur et ambassadeur sur les réseaux sociaux avec des interactions différentes, plus liés aux marques, le but est de bien interpréter les nouvelles données et mettre en place des stratégies adéquates pour optimiser la synergie dans les canaux de distribution.
Y a-t-il une vie après la musique et à quoi la vôtre ressemblerait-elle?
La musique fait partie de ma vie, mais le sport aussi. Je suis fan de sport US et surtout de basket-ball, c’est très important pour moi de pouvoir mettre des paniers et faire des petits matches pour retrouver une pêche. J’en profite pour écouter des nouvelles sorties d’albums, donc la musique n’est jamais très loin, en fin de compte !

3 songs/musical works that have been important in your life and why ?
I am someone who prefers listening and debating on entire projects, difficult for me to present tracks but I can mention:
Kanye West – « Through the Wire »
My first musical encounter with this producer-rapper is the first time I realize the contribution of sampling in Rap, R&B and Urban music in general. This Shaka Khan sample is a trigger in my in-depth search for Soul, Jazz, Funk music from the ’70s and ’80s. His musical genius and powerful words made him my favorite artist.
Red Hot Chill Pepers – « Californication »
I’ve always been amazed by the vangard clip in the form of video game. The Red Hot melodies are very stubborn. This track hit my curiosity and led me to listen to other groups of this kind.
Travis Scott – « STOP TRYING TO BE GOD »
I was touched by the richness of the instruments that make up the title and the accuracy of the Nigerian star. Historically, this tube marks the new breath and the recognition of African pop, its stars and the influence of the international afrobeat that we aknowledge for a few years.
Golden Ticket moment: when did you get your big break?
During my university studies, I began to be known by artists, RP, managers who recognized my publications, research and considered me as an interesting platform. Some that I followed and presented on my blog since the beginning signed major contracts, and they had not forgotten my articles when they were unknown. This has prompted me to persevere and open myself to other activities.
The second fact is when I decided to live in Paris in order to be on the ground and closer to the music industry. I came with a cultural background, my degrees, and my goals. The rest was done through my work and perseverance.
The show/gig you recommend for someone who has rarely ever goes out?
For those who want to make a final musical trip before the start of the season on the other side of the Atlantic ; I advise the Made In America festival, which gathers the best of the American and international urban scene in Philadelphia, in early September. This Live Nation’s and Jay-Z festival is in its fifth year.
Why on earth did you want to work in music?
The answer may be commonplace, but passion for music remains the first source of motivation. I’m always looking for the story behind every track, every project.
I used to read all the booklets, credits and the individuals and entities that participated. Younger, I didn’t understand the real meaning behind that, I just found out that there were people working on projects without being publicly known as the artists. I became interested in these “people of shadow”, inspired by their journey, and finaly I focused my appeal for marketing, the legal aspect and the interpretation of figures around music.
You meet aliens: which 10 tracks do they need to hear?
In fact, it would take at least 30 giga of music to show the diversity and beauty of the musical works to be shown. I’d go on a playlist about artists who influenced new music schools.

SRSLY(seriously) : what are the stakes of your job within the next 5 years?
Within 5 years, aproject manager will have to manage an artist and his catalogue with a direct fan base on streaming platforms, knowing that this same artist is also an influencer and ambassador on social networks with different interactions, more related to brands. The goal is to properly interpret the new data and put appropriate strategies in place to optimize synergies on distribution channels.
Is there life after music, and what would yours be ?
Music is part of my life, but sports too. I am a fan of US sports and especially basketball. It is very important for me to be able to shoot the ball and play pick-up games. I take advantage of it to listen to new albums releases, so the music is never very far, in the end!
Anything you’d like to add ?
I share with you the sentence that motivates me every morning when I wake up: “Every day is a new opportunity to reach a goal”.
